A decade ago the manufacturers of cellphones tried to have the smallest phone possible, this has changed, we’ve all been seeing the size of the phones is increasing and we’re now reaching new boundaries. This because you can now do more on the phone the just calls and texts, much, much more…
Now there’s a new kid on the block (and he´s big).
Lenovo announced during the ongoing IFA some new devices, the PHAB and VIBE series smartphones, both of which pack very interesting characteristics. The PHAB is a new series of Phablets, and it’s released with two devices, the PHAB and PHAB Plus. The flagship of this series is the Plus model, with 6.8-inch, 1080×1920 resolution display powered by a Snapdragon 615 0cta-core processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage (expandable via MicroSD), all of this powered by a 3,500mAh battery. It has a 13 megapixel rear-mounted camera and a 5 megapixels front one. It also runs a skinned version of Android 5.0 with one-hand capabilities (as you could expect).
There’s also the PHAB, which, while being cheaper, it’s the bigger of the two models. It packs a 7-inch 720p panel on the front, a quad-core Snapdragon processor on the inside alongside 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a huge 4,250mah battery. For cameras, it runs the same set up as its brother.
Both devices will be available in red, white or blue and the price will be 180$ for the PHAB and 300% for the PHAB Plus. It’s scheduled to be released on the fourth quarter of this year.
While the PHAB was designed to impress with its huge screen, the VIBE series goal is to have the better battery life possible. The VIBE P1 makes its point by having an impressive 5,000mAh battery, combined with ‘Rocket Charge’ quick-charging technology, which, Lenovo says, is good to last up to 81 hours on 100% charge. And because all this energy output as to power something, the V1 has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 615 processor and a 13MP camera on the back. It’s got 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, expandable via Micro SD.
The P1 also has a little brother, the P1m. This second handset in the VIBE line has a 4,000mAh battery which is only trumped by its sibling, with 1,000mAh more. But because the device has a 720p 5-inch display and a less powerful quad-core processor, it should easily last a couple of days on a full charge. For cameras, it has an 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and the RAM capacity is of 2GB. The P1 will cost 280$, but probably won’t be hitting the US market, and the P1m price should be around 160$.
To finish things, the Lenovo Vibe S1, with a slick design made of glass and metal. It has a 5-inch 1080p display, 2,500mAh battery, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. It’s powered by an octa-core MediaTek processor and has two cameras on the front. It also has a new design feature, that is to have a secondary 2 megapixel shooter right next to the 8 megapixel main camera, this to help shift focus and perspective when taking selfies. It’s scheduled to be released later this year and it will cost 300$.
