Troubles are getting hype with Snapdragon 810 which powered today’s Flagships. This week, Qualcomm has finally offficially talking about its upcoming Snapdragon 820. And the last updates, they talk about their new Adreno 530 Graphics Processing Unit and Spectra ISO that will appear with the chip. The details about on its new ARMv8 CPU custom design still need to be waited.
Just how they named older GPU, the Adreno 530 is the new series and is the highest in the range. Adreno 510 also in the works, which will ship with mid end Snapdragon 618 and 620 SoCs.
Start from the performance, they said 530 boasts a 40% percent higher performance compared with its predecessor but consume less power up to 40% at the same time. These benefits are likely come from their choice to move to newer 14nm technology like Exynos 7420 does. Even Qualcomn promised new feature called “Standalone GPU Power Manager” which can order how parts of the CPU Cores work more efficiently and imporoves power savings when idle.
530 also remains compatible with OpenGL ES 3.2 and Extension Pack which was introduced with Lollipop. Those make possible that upcoming Vulkan API, and all benefits will be supported in the future.
This chip is also OpenCL 2.0 and Renderscript compatible, allowing for improved GPU performance for faster video processing 250% at lower power.
Not just still there, Snapdragon 820 will also support 4K display with 60 frame per second output! Thats awesome man. Yeah we know HDMI 2.0 made this happen. Even 4K mirroring is also possible with 30fps frame rate.
About the ISP quality, it comes with new Image Signal Proessor called the Spectra. Spectra support for higher resolution camera setups and will work with 3 camera sensors working simultaneously. Also it support 25 Megapixels and 30fps video capture at full-sensor resolution.
You may imagine how this chip handle multicameras device like 360 recording device like nokia did. Also mentioned that Spectra support GPU Optical Zoom Capability, which can simulate optical zoom rather than digital zoom (i still cant imagine how is that lol). Color correction and Noise reduction are improved. We will have to see how that works in real world hands on.
This Snapdragon 820 is expected not to land on market until first half of 2016. Because we will hear another story like Kryo CPU cores and other features inside this new SoC.
