We are surely talking about one of the best known, one of the oldest and the most downloaded apps for monitoring your workout from Google Play Store. Therefore we would like to find out if Sports Tracker is worth the hype in this review. We can already give you the answer, ‘yes, it surely is’. It offers the user the option to monitorize different sports activities, a wide variety of data that you can check during and after your workout, the ability to share your activity on Facebook and other social media, like Sports Tracker own community, you can also connect to your heart rate monitor amongst many other things. What I enjoyed the most in this app was the possibility to access a far bigger variety of data in comparison to its counterparts and all of it is available with a single swipe on the interface that allows you to see instant data such as duration, distance, speed, average speed, energy, maximum speed, altitude and more.
To use the app, you simply download it from Google Play Store. After you‘ ve installed it you have to create a login either through your e-mail account or your Facebook account and after you’ve filled in all the fields on your profile, the app is ready to be used. The interface couldn’t be more user friendly, the home menu shows the picture of the data you’ve selected, times, kilometres, calories and distances. You can access menus like Premium Account (optional and paied), Last Workout, Find Friends, Log, Explore (maps), Settings and finally Start New Workout, and here is where it all begins. Simply access this option and the app will automatically open the monitoring screen where you can see where you’re running through the GPS system, all the aforementioned data, a chart with the values by km, a graph for speed and altitude and, finally, another graph for your heart rate (you have to have a heart rate monitor to see this data). Once you’ve finished your workout, it will be added to your profile and can be viewed at any time. You can also publish your workout on your Facebook profile, for instance, and be cheered on by all your friends.
Sports Tracker is very useful for athletes who like to monitor their workout while listening to some music, having a GPS device to verify their route and be reachable all the time through their smartphones with the Sports Tracker app.
This app is quite light, works on older smartphones and it only takes up 18Mb of memory space, that’s less than most similar apps. We went for a short run in order to test it and with the GPS and audio both on for a workout of less than an hour, the battery charge only decreased by 8%. We believe it’s a normal battery usage in comparison with similar apps.
In conclusion, it is a very complete app, professional and worthy of the hype. It doesn’t have a lot of unnecessary advertising while in use, it provides useful and free information about workout and the data that can be seen during it are far better than the competition. It’s only a shame that the Premium version isn’t available for free. Our compliments to Sports Tracking Technologies on a great app.
