A recent study from the researchers of the University of New Haven did a demonstration on how hackers can get your personal information through your Gear 2 Neo Smartwatch made by Samsung and LG’s G Watch.
Through the Gear 2 Neo , they were able to extract a lot of information , such as emails , messages , health info and contact data.
The director of the Cyber Forensics Research and Education Group (UNHcFREG ) , Ibrahim Baggili said that they didn’t break a sweat on extracting the information from the smartwatches stated above, but expertise and research is required to it.
Along with some other people from the team , they plan to show their results on the forensics conference in August.
With the amount of smartwatches growing everyday , companies need to be extra careful on the security measures , since the information isn’t encrypted , hackers with some skills and patience might get their hands in something even more important , such as your credit card information.
In a statement provided to CNET , Samsung said that it takes consumer privacy and security very seriously and our products are designed with privacy in mind. If at any time we identify a potential vulnerability, we act promptly to investigate the issue.
Now all we have to do is wait and see if they are going to take any security measures anytime soon.
