That’s right guys! Samsung wants to release a new foldable display on its smartphones next year. During the Samsung Investor Forum 2014 in New York, Lee Chang-hoon, vice president of the business strategic team at Samsung Display said that Samsung will release a flexible screen that we can fold in half.
“We will secure production capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 [flexible displays each month] by the end of next year. We plan to provide consumers with a product that has a flexible display by the end of the year. However, nothing has been decided on the finished product. There will be no company that has this great production capacity by 2016.”
Lee Chang-hoon also said that Samsung is planning to lower production costs of AMOLED displays in order to lure more buyers of the technology. “One of the superior things about AMOLED is that it can become cheaper to produce compared to LCD. We are prepared to compete directly with LCD.”
It’s also fitting Samsung will look to release a new line of products with the flexible displays in an attempting to offer more unique experiences to attract new customers.
