Samsung was at this year’s IFA in Berlin to present their news and their plans for the European market. In what concerns to the mobile world, everybody hoped to finally see the S6 edge Plus, as well as the Gear S2. But for this wearable device Samsung gave reserved a proper time with a dedicated presentation, the truth is that the S6 Edge Plus had no right to any word.
But if for traditional mobile devices Samsung didn’t say anything, there were some other interesting surprises that deserved the attention of all who were at the event.
Samsung with BMW and Volkswagen
When everyone was expecting a partnership between Apple with BMW to have the Apple Car (how many rumors were being presented over time), Samsung anticipated and confirmed a partnership with two German brands: BMW and Volkswagen. With these two brands, Samsung predicts an improvement in the way of how we interact with our cars, ensuring several of new features that will be interesting to observe on a daily basis. The simple go back to see whether or not we have our car locks will end, as with Gear S2 on our wrist it will be quite easy to do this check.
Many other features are expected in this new Samsung design, the Car Mode for Galaxy is one of them. Knowing where we left the car parked, turn on the air conditioning in advance, receive real-time information about the vehicle, these are tasks that we may carry out with our Samsung smartphone or with our smartwatch Gear S2.
We will wait for more details in the near future, but Samsung will be in the lead in this new project to make our cars smarter.
Samsung Pay, Smart Office and Samsung Knox, were three elements that were highlighted by Samsung. Both of these elements aim to turn our live easier. The first is already well known, but now has undergone improvements in performance to be even better. Now, Samsung ensures ease of using Samsung Pay payments. The second, Smart Office, is exactly what we expected: a solution that will greatly improve the work of each on your tablet or smartphone. Not been revealed great detail on this suite of work, but we will be attentive to details. The Samsung Knox continues to be enhanced by Samsung and has guaranteed the security that companies needed that Android had, so that if it failed to hand brands like Blackberry or Apple.
By the Samsung numbers, these three solutions have been lead to perfection, ensuring a very interesting market share.
The focus, of course, is always the human so they can improve and facilitate people’s lives. Another interesting aspect, it’s the fact that this project it’s not limited only to Samsung. In fact, Samsung will always seek partnerships with other brands to always bring us the best experiment. This bet is very important for the South Korean brand, as this one wants to excel in various areas such as Healthcare, Retail, Industry and Mobility. In the last one, highlighting the partnership between Samsung and two well-known brands, as already mentioned above: BMW and Volkswagen.
IoT – Internet of Things
The big bet of Samsung goes exactly here. This is where Samsung will invest in the upcoming years, believing that this market will reach €1000M in 2020. This is more than enough to make the brand to invest heavily in this area, thereby ensuring leadership from the beginning.
The project, named “SmartThings”, it’s focus on the person, with a number of capabilities that want to improve the daily lives of each one of us, whether through increased security, whether through monitoring our daily lives and our health.
Smart Home Monitor is one of the solutions presented by Samsung at this IoT group. This solution essentially serves to monitor and protect our home. With several sensors that Samsung will provide (in partnership with other brands as well), we can know if we have a water leak, a fire or an intruder. This system incorporates another one, the Smart Video: whenever something is going wrong, a camera will be activated in this area so that we can see in real time on our smartphone. This means that if someone enter our house, we will receive an alert via SMS and the camera will immediately begin to film and broadcast the video. The most interesting of this project, turns out to be the advantages that might have on the children and the elderly control. Knowing when a child comes home after school, or whether a senior is safe and well during the day, is a much easier process with this new evolution of Samsung.
All sensors will be connected by a HUB provided by Samsung and an internal battery able to stay connected during 10h in case of power failure.
Sleep Sense is another element that complete the new range of Samsung bets on this IoT area. This is a sensor that may be placed under the mattress and it will monitoring our breathing, heartbeat and movements. A sleep analyzer is something that already exists in the market through some applications that we install on our smartphones, but none guarantees an accuracy of 97% as this one. Furthermore, this sensor is capable of regulating a series of elements, such as room temperature (increasing or reducing the temperature of the air conditioning), light (controlling the lights in the room) or even switch off the television or turn on our music. All this happens when all these elements are interconnected, naturally.
These solutions should be available soon in Europe, with some of the sensors and the central HUB of all this project already for sale in the United States.
