Today a partnership to develop next generation 5G technology was announced. This partnership will be between Samsung and LG. Samsung signed an MoU with LG U+ to start this journey. This agreement will also boost Korea’s lead in 5G research as well as aid in the creation of standards for the next major frontier in mobile telecommunication.
With the experience and understanding of end-user preferences of these to technology giants, these promises to be a really powerful partnership to drive R&D for next generation 5G networks.
The partnership will focus on 5G global spectrum identification and acquisition, co-development of 5G technology like: Full Dimension Multiple Input Multiple Output (FD-MIMO) antennas as well as the global standardization of 5G technologies.
Over 100 senior staff from both companies attended the ceremony which also featured an in-depth discussion on how both companies are going to collaborate, resulting in a “5G Readiness Target” that was set for the year 2020.
