Android, Chrome and Search, 3 main products from Google well recognized by the users and these products brought a whole new world to our lives. I can say with 99% sure that you use at least one of these products in a daily basis, I use the 3, every day, non-stop. Despite of being really good products by itself when you join all of them as one it’s incredible what you can accomplish but not everything is the best experience and there are so many new things possible that we can only dream.
Those dreams may be coming to reality one day – and I hope soon – with the recent rumor about Project Hera.
By now, Google had the success when they showed to us other projects like Project Butter (introduced in 4.1 Jelly Bean) and Project Svelte (introduced in 4.4 KitKat) but this Project Hera is to me “The Dream”.
So let me try to explain “The Dream”.
Google made their products available in a wide variety of platforms and features that allow the user to swap devices and have access to whatever he was doing, what I mean is that you can, for example, access chrome tabs open on you pc on your smartphone trough Chrome or if you search something on your pc you can later see suggestions on Google Now about that search but these interactions between different products and platforms are yet limited and is here where Project Hera enters to solve the problem.
Hera, from the Greek mythology, is the god of marriage and Project Hera is all about joining the different experiences into one. Project Hera, in is basics, is the multitasking screen.

This new UI interface will probably be powered by HTML 5 and what it does is basically run tasks in form of instances that are interactive, you don’t need a specific app to do the a task.
Confusing? Well let me give examples of what we might see.
Imagine you want to go somewhere and you are at home on your pc or tablet and you go to maps search the destiny you want. When you open the tab on chrome and start Google Maps the Project Hera will automatically open a new instance that can be accessed from the multitasking screen on you Android-powered phone. You can, later, interact with the map and the beauty of this process is that you won’t need the maps app or even open any specific app.
Creating an account
How many times do you create an account and after that you need to go to your mail to confirm the mail account? With Project Hera when you register, an instance will automatically appear so you can with one click confirm the mail account.
Other examples can only be imagined and the things that can be made with this new experience are endless but it’s difficult to believe that Google can make this implementation because it looks pretty futuristic and for a pretty good experience it’s needed a connection to the internet at all times (I presume).
HTML 5 gives even more possibilities. Web apps can possibly run as well in this new interface – you know all of those apps available on the Chrome Web Store – and because the app is not running on the device by itself, the experience and the interface are very similar all across devices and platforms.
I don’t see yet how this new multitask view will be on pc or even if it will be available on pc but I hope so. As all the rumors, this may not come to life or, if it does, with minor changes but I believe Google is capable to invent something like this and give us “The Next Big Thing”.
