NVIDIA has decided to start its CES 2015 campaign announcing the NVIDIA Tegra X1, a mobile chipset that according to the company has approximately twice the power of the powerful K1. NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang calls it a “mobile super chip” and this new chip can deliver a teraflop of processing power.
The NVIDIA Tegra X1 improves by employing 256 GPU cores and an octacore CPU, all this working in harmony to provide performance to match the Intel Core i7 with only a tenth of the power draw. The Tegra X1 supports all major graphics standards, including Unreal Engine 4, DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5, CUDA®, OpenGL ES 3.1 and the Android Extension Pack, making it easier for developers to bring PC games to the mobile platform.
While this chipset may come to mobile devices NVIDIA intends for the Tegra X1 to be pioneer in the mobile automotive industry. Cars with NVIDIA’s latest SoC should not only be fast, but also very safe.
