There is a new virus in Android devices. The virus name it’s Podec and it can circumvent the Captcha mechanisms and therefore stealing money users with infected devices. This virus it’s also knowed by Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.Podec and its propagation occurs by SMS.
For now the big Podec target it’s being the northern Europe, particularly in Russia, where the majority of infected devices. However, other locations, such as South America, are already infected which shows the growth of this virus on new markets.
The intention, as already noted, is stealing money from infected users, managing to subscribe to value-added services where the user has to pay to attend.
The Podec uses Captcha translation services, managing to mimic human behavior and so ensure that these codes are provided to them, hiding alerts of subscribed services costs and the need for authorization.
How can your device could be infected? By installing unofficial stores or changed applications. Once this is installed it requers permitions to admin rights and after that it’s almost impossible to remove it.
The Podec code is well developed and shielded, and it’s spread by several system zones and is protected and hide inside the system.
Podec was uncovered by Kaspersky and because of that if you want to avoid this virus don’t install applications that aren’t from official stores or that come from suspicious sources.
