Sony just announced some new accessories to be added to the high-end Z5 line. The first one that jumps out is the flip covers, there will be three new ones, all with colors and cut layouts to match their respective device screen so you can see the clock and notifications.
With a built-in NFC connection inside the case, the cover can actually communicate with the device, activating the window on the case so you can see new notifications appearing on your phone. Although it’s a nice feature, seems like they could have saved come battery life by having AMOLED screen instead of LCD. It can also download a theme for the phone matching the color of the case.
These cases also felt like it didn’t want to stay closed and wobbled a bit. But that might be an issue with the prototype, let’s hope the finished product has this issue fixed.
The Sony MDR-NC750 was also announced, it supports Hi Res Audio and active noise cancellation. This high-end headset seems like a hit, and might be part of a bundle that comes with the smartphones. With a high sampling rate (24bit/96kHz or 24bit/192kHz), it’s elevating the standards when comparing to the 16bit/44.1kHz of the CD. This will provide a better sound quality, specially for the .WAV, .FLAC, and ALAC sound formats.
For the noise cancelation part, if seems like something from the future, with the headphones themselves capturing the sound, with a built in microphone, and sending out opposite sound mixed with whatever is being played, in theory canceling all the surrounding sound. We’ll have to see how this technology performs.
