My garage is an Android application that seeks to help you keep track of your car maintenances and repairs. Although not many of us have more than one car to take care of and seem capable enough to remember our maintenance dates the majority of people seem to have such busy lives that they need to keep track of their scheduled maintenance dates.
While keeping maintenance dates in a piece of paper somewhere might seem like a good idea at the time that piece of paper will not scream at you when you hit the deadline. This makes you smartphone the perfect candidate for keeping track of this kind of information.
My garage helps you keep track of everything car related. First of all you need to do is input your car information. You will need to input the make and models of your car, color, fuel type, year, engine, last inspection date and your insurance date.
Once you’ve input this information you are redirected to the list of your vehicles and if you access one of them you will see all the info you’re input before and are given the option to swipe right.
When you do so you are presented with the maintenances list. If you choose to add one you will have to input a data, your car’s km, price of the maintenance, car shop where you did the maintenance and you can choose from a checklist what was changed: oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, break pads, timing belt, auxiliary belt, antifreeze, break fluid and cockpit filter.
You will the return to the maintenances list and can swipe right to input any repairs made. After that if you swipe right again you will be in the reviews page. Here you can see when you have to attend the next inspection as well as when your insurance expires.
Besides that, after you’ve input some maintenance data, like for example an oil change you will see here some info about when you will have to change your oil again, an approximate date and the number of km.
Below that info you can also see some advices that will change eventually when you open/close the application or change screen.
Overall My Garage’s design isn’t at all bad, but it could be better. Since it is all dark you will have great difficulty reading the info if you’re outside, which will be where you’re at if you just out of a car shop after a repair or a scheduled maintenance. A lighter layout would seriously improve visibility and people might enjoy it better, even discarding the visibility issues.
It is definitely a novelty for me as I had never heard of an application whose single purpose is to keep track of your car’s maintenance dates and repairs. Taking into account the chaotic lives some of us are running it will surely help a few people stay out of expenses due to forgetting scheduled maintenances and inspections.
Where Is My Car
Where Is My Car is an application made by the same creators of My Garage and once you’ve opened it you will immediately see the resemblance, both in design and behavior.
Where Is My Car is an application perfect for those who forget where the hell they parked their car. Not only is it useful when you’re out of town and have strayed far from your car but it is also useful for those who go to a shopping mall and have no idea where they left their car.
This application is very simple to use, you just need to add your car to the list and when you’re inputting the details about your car you only need to click the set position button for the application to save your car’s current position.
After that you will return to the list of cars and if you click on the person on the right side of your car’s description Google Maps will pop up and you will have the option to choose the route to your car. As simple as it can possibly be right?
Well as you can see there couldn’t be an easier way to be able to return to your car without seeming lost. All you have to do is mark you car’s position before you leave it and when you’re ready to return to it just open the application , click the person icon and you’ll be on your way to your car. All you need for this application to work flawlessly is a good GPS and most smartphones have that already.
As you can see this is a very simple to use and potentially useful application that is pretty well design but as we said before it could use a color overhaul to make it lighter and easier on the eyes.
Again a novelty for me as I had never seen an application that was driven by the fact that people are more often than not, forgetting where they left their stuff, car included.
