Soon after Mr. Narendra Modi, hon’ble prime minister of India came into power, he launched a campaign called “Make in India” which aims to make India as a production hub by encouraging the companies to manufacture their goods in India only, rather than importing from other nations, predominantly China. The response of the campaign has been very promising and already many companies declared their production units to be set up in India, the latest one coming from the house of Motorola.
“Evaluation is going on… We will have news soon,” said Marcus Frost, Senior Marketing Director Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific at Motorola, when asked about the company’s manufacturing plans in India.
Motorola currently has manufacturing hubs in Latin America and China. Although it had a production unit in Chennai, India, but operations there were indefinitely suspended a couple of years ago. It is still unclear whether the Chennai plant would be re-opened or a new production unit would be set up somewhere else. We will keep you updated.
