Micromax announced today the Canvas Silver 5, the slimest phone in the world with no bumps, with a waistline measuring just 5.1mm. The Oppo R5 and vivo X5Max are thinner, but so much so that engineers weren’t able to fit the whole camera inside.
The smartphone comes with a 4.8-inch AMOLED display of 720p resolution with Gorila Glass 3, and Micomax was keen to stress how that has helped bring slimness down compared to IPS panels and Gorila Glass 2.
The Canvas Silver 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, 2GB of RAM and a quad-core processor. It has 16Gb of internal storage, and that’s all, because there isn’t a microSD slot.
The rear camera, which have been designed to make flush with the back, employs an 8MP Sony IMX219 sensor. The front shooter is a 5MP.
The device is slim, and very light too, at a mere 97g. It’s battery is 2000mAh, which sounds a little poor, but given the design priorities, it’s nice to see that they haven’t go lower. So, the 0.3mm slimmer X5Max has 2300mAh battery.
The phone comes in a single-SIM form only, still it supports LTE and runs Android Lollipop. It’s priced at INR 17,999(~$280), the device will be for sale next month, both physical stores and online.
