The new HTC flagship is a wonderfull phone, we all agree on that. Although the phone is a great piece of engineering, i think they forgot the part where we take pictures with our phones everyday.
A test made by DxOMark , a very well-known company in the photo world, that measures camera and lens image quality made some tests with the M9 that won’t make HTC very happy.
The M9 is on the 22nd place in the DxOMark’s mobile ratings, behind the Amazon Fire Phone. A phone announced in 2014 with some pretty basic specs.
With a score of 69, the M9 is just 1 point better than its predecessor the M8. And even worse , the M9 stays way behind the competition for the first place which is currently hold by the new Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge, followed by the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with 83 points, the Apple iPhone 6 /6Plus with 82, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia z3, both with 79 points. The DxOMark says that the One M9 is surprisingly good on bright light, but points were removed for colour oversaturation in low light, inaccurate white balance and loss of sharpness at image corners.
The One M9 does even worse in video recording, scoring just 61 points, points that were deducted because of the lack of stabilization, detail loss and colour oversaturation.
This being said, just because DxOMark, your friend, or any other person said that the M9 camera isn’t very good, this does not mean that you won’t like it.
Your notion of perfect image may differ from another person notion of perfect picture.
If you were thinking on buying the M9, before making a decision try it first and see if you like it.
