After the review from Google’s engineer, Benson Leung, which was consisted on a critic about how the OnePlus USB Type-C products being out of spec?
Well, following that critic, OnePlus has given their answer about the case, and they say that USB Type-C products are safe to use with the OnePlus 2 but they can’t guarantee if it will work properly on other devices.
A tiny little resistor is the root of this problem. OnePlus uses a different than the one that’s recommended, this could fry your power source if your phone doesn’t have a internal mechanism to control the amount of power that’s going into your device.
Since the resistor is so different, OnePlus decided to refund all USB Type-C cables/adapters. If you live in North America or Europe you can fill this form found on their website, it will guide you through the whole process of refunding. But if you live in India or China, just head over to a OnePlus repair center and get a refund directly from them.
Although this “problem” is haunting OnePlus right now, their USB Type-C products are a very affordable and stylish way to get this kind of technology into your life, and with the growth of the USB Type-C hardwares, such as the new Nexus Phones, it’s nice to know that OnePlus cares about their customers to a point that they could be losing money.
Rumours say that OP is working on a new USB Type-C cable compatible with the Type-C 1.1 spec, but there’s no release date.
