Google research lab is known for many projects, which involve the most varied areas. One of the areas in which the U.S. Company has shown enough interest is combating cancer.
One of the last projects in this area was revealed a few months ago, and consists in a tablet that can be used to detect some sort of oncologic pathology, as well as other pathologies. But it seems that this time Google is back to war against cancer with a patent for a wearable gear. If this wearable is capable of performing its task perfectly, then the result can be quite innovative and spectacular, a huge contribution to the fight against this disease that affects millions of lives every day. On paper it works, at least it has potential!
But what this wearable may be able to do? It will, along with the pill developed previously, not only identify cancer cells as well as eradicate them. This new wearable and this pill may form the perfect team.
The pill it’s composed of iron oxide nanoparticles that, through biochemical factors, identify cancer cells. In a very simple way we can explain that, after identifying those cells, the nanoparticles paint them and travel with them through the body.
In this patent, the new wearable is identified as “nanoparticles phoresis” and is described as a bracelet that transmits energy to the organism of the person. This energy can be transmitted on a variety of options, such as radio frequency, magnetic fields, acoustic pulses, infrared or even visible light.
One of the ideas for this transfer of power is the detection of specific molecules or cells into the bloodstream, passing by the place where the wearable is. In the case of using the pill since the nanoparticles are of iron oxide, could be used a magnetic field to eradicate them.
However, if it is possible to identify other target cells through other methods beside these nanoparticles, this wearable may have other potential not only in the Oncology field. In recent studies, some proteins have been identified to be present in the development of Parkinson’s disease. Therefore, as explained by Google, if you used a type of energy that is able to identify just that kind of proteins and destroy them, the development of the disease can be slowed.
These two projects have great potential to be an excellent contribution to medicine, it remains to be seen whether what is described on paper will be reflected in reality.
