We all know that when Google announced Helpouts (their support platform via Hangouts, 1 on 1) it was aimed primarily at connecting regular people with experts on a given field, that would sell their time while Google took a cut of the deal.
While Helpouts is alive and well Google has taken the hint and is taking a hint from it in order to do none other than help sell hardware on Google Play.
This was discovered by people at TechCrunch, Google published a new service in which users can chat with an “expert” to gain more info about a specific product before making a purchase.
It seems that Google has further plans to bring their Google Device Experts plan to retail locations in order to act as a virtual Genius Bar much like those found in Apple brick and mortar stores.
What does this mean? Theoretically that customers would visit a location where Google products are sold and they would activate a live chat with a Google Device Expert in order to learn more about a product. They could also eventually expand this in order to help out on troubleshoot issues as well, all of this without having to put a person in every location, all done through Google Hangouts.
What do you guys think about this one?
