If you live in the UK and have a Facebook account, tomorrow Facebook will make sure that you do our part on this year’s General Election. For tomorrow only, the social network will host the “largest ever voter registration campaign,” but of course only for people who are old enough to vote. And how will Facebook do that? Well, the company is working with the Electoral Commission to place reminders in Newsfeeds and will also add a new “Life Event” to profiles. This way only the most distracted ones will miss this.
By motivating Facebook-loving adults, the Election Commission hopes it can spur voter turnouts or even just remind people that it’s now possible to register to vote online. If you’re one of these people you can expect to see the following message on your Newsfeed tomorrow:
