Samsung has revealed today, during the MWC in Barcelona, their brand new flagships Samsung Galaxy S6 and his brother Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. But does it worth to change from your Samsung Galaxy S5 to the brand new Galaxy S6? We don’t think so and we will explain why right away.
A Premium equipment it’s all that Samsung lovers are asking for, but for a long time Samsung keep working on an appelant design. With the new Galaxy Alpha, Samsung has evolved in this aspect and the reactions were very positive. But the eyes were all set on the South Korean company super star, not only because of its design but also because of how it would be in hardware matter.
We tuned to the Samsung presentation to try to understand all these points, and if we have to describe our felling in one word it would be “disapointed”, and we belive that this is the reaction of Android and Samsung’s users.
When a equipment is revealed and the purpose is to succeed another, we hope to see some improvements and not a drawback, and in part we think that Samsung has done it today. The hardware improvement it’s not questionable, with a better processor and more RAM, but some important features has been removed. We highlight this 3:
- water and dust resistance;
- memory card slot;
- removable battery.
When comparing the S6 to the S5, this three features are the main one’s that are no longger available. Reasons more than enough to stay with your current phone and not changing to the brand new Galaxy S6.
Even though there is some significant improvements on hardware in this Galaxy S6, the S5 already gives us a preatty good hardware and capable to stand strong for one more year of demanding apps, since its Snapdragon 801 still has a lot to show and the 2GB of RAM are enough.
Water and dust resistence give the user a security on his daily basis, specially if we are talking about a very expensive device. On a daily basis water splashes or places with a lot of dust you won’t have to be worry if you are a Galaxy S5 owner because the equipement should be covered by his warrenty. With the Galaxy S6 that is no longer possible.
The memory card slod is one of the main features that Samsung cut off of the Galaxy S6. Even though the S6 counts with tree options to internal storage (32, 64 or 128Gb), sure it is preferable to expand the internal memory of our Galaxy S5 with a 128 Gb microSD card. On S6 we will always be limited to the internal storage memory of the device and it ends up with a chance to do a backup of our informations from the phone.
Change the battery of Galaxy S6 is one hard task, because this one comes integrated on device’s body and there is no way to change it, unless the device goes to Samsung (if you don’t do that you might loose you warranty). This is a way that a lot of companies are adopting to reduce the size of their smartphones and tablets.
With the Galaxy S5 with less than an year in the market, in our opinion, doesn’t justify the change of this device to its sucessor Galaxy S6.
AndroidEmotios TIP: Save the money from Galaxy S6 and wait for de S7 and see if this one really worth it!
In the next year, we are here to evaluate this.
