Well, Cyanogen Inc. is in the news recently for… let’s say, good and bad reasons. It announced it was partnering with Microsoft to bundle its apps into CyanogenOS, but quickly announced it would never pre-load Microsoft apps into CM. Well, that’s weird, and most importantly, it’s a promise they are trying to forget.
The CEO of Cyanogen Inc. Kirk McMaster has revealed that his company and Microsoft are working together to integrate Cortana deeply into Android. Now, many users are already testing the beta version of Cortana on Android. But it’s a well known fact that Cortana performs far better on Microsoft phones than Android phones because of Android’s system related restrictions. It looks like Cyanogen is trying to bridge the gap.
Cyanogen is famous for not being a fan of Google Apps, and integrating Cortana deep into it’s system will put it into direct rivalry with Google Now. Earlier, Kirk McMaster famously quoted that “Cyanogen will take Android away from Google” which led to a lot of flak from users. Now he is even thinks that Windows Phones could be replaced by Cyanogen OS phones, and I’m not quite sure whether Microsoft is going to take all this lightly.
