In its Open Day in Madrid, BQ decided to present the BQ Aquaris X5, an equipment that only loses for being late. This equipment’s great highlight is its metallic body, like BQ’s CEO, Alberto Méndez, said several times.
However, only the lateral trims are made from metal, a polished and rounded aluminum that allows the equipment to have a good ergonomics. The backside continues to be made of polycarbonates that now presents a more solid and professional look, far from the back covers that we can see on the BQ Aquaris M and on the Aquaris E.
The design is very compact and the texture is soft, thanks to the techniques that BQ apply on the X5 manufacturing, techniques that allow the metal to adhere to the polycarbonates without any additional element.
Still in the design level, the BQ Aquaris X5 follows the design of the most recent equipment sent in to the market. In front, the BQ Aquaris X5 has a 5 inches screen, with HD resolution (720 x 1280 pixels and 294 ppi). Furthermore, this screen ensures spectacular colors and should guarantee a good visualization in very illuminated places, thanks to Quantum Color + technology. Also on the front of the BQ Aquaris X5, we can see a change compared with previous equipment of the brand: this time, the capacitive button “Home” was change to the new BQ’s logo. This button can be personalized by the user so it can do several actions, which can changedepending on the time we pressure the same button. And not just this new feature will change the way we interact with our BQ also the design is much more appealing with this simple change.
Onthe right side, we have the on/off button of our BQ Aquaris X5 followed by the volume’s buttons. Onthe same side, it’s possible to access to the microSD card slot where we can expand the internal memory of the device. On the left side, the metallic surface it’s almost clean except for the slot for two nanoSIM cards. Notice that, although it’s a dualSIM, we can only find a slot for the cards, which makes the design much more cleaner with few irregularities, making the device even more pleasant to the touch.
On top, we have a 3,5mm jack entry allowing to connect headphones, while, on the bottom we have a speaker and a microUSB port. This design closely resembles to what has been adopted by Samsung in its Galaxy S6 and variants.
Inside, focus on the Snapdragon 412 processor. This is a Quad Core MSM8916T chipsetwith speeds up to 1.4 GHz, accompanied by a graphics processor also from Qualcomm, the Adreno 306. This last one, guarantees processing speeds up to 465 MHz. These two processors are accompanied by 2 GB of RAM in one version of the equipment, while in other version are 3 GB RAM memory, which makes the device very fluid at the transitions between screens and applications already open. In terms of internal memory, there are two versions, one with 16 GB and another with 32 GB.
Still on the inside, the 2900mAh battery will be responsible to charge all the components of this new X5. Logically, only with daily use will be possible to understand the device real autonomy, yet, it is expected to be able to last without any problems a day of intensive use.
One of the points that may be surprising in this Aquaris X5 is the camera. In the back camera, BQ equipped the X5 with a Sony IMX214 sensor, with 13MP and an 2.0 opening . Alongside with the camera we find two LED flashs. This camera is able to be a serious case when compared with others devices within the same price range, since it has 5 lens with a 1/3.06” and will be able to shoot in 1080p. Meanwhile, in the first interactions we had with the BQ Aquaris X5 camera, we were a bit disappointed, being that the images were a little grainy. The blame, according to BQ’s employees who were present, was on the software still unfinished. We understand this situation and we will be waiting for the chance to test the Aquaris X5 with its software already finished.
he front camera, this one also promises to be very interesting for all selfies’ lovers. We are talking about a 5E2 Samsung’s sensor with 5MP. This camera also brings a LED flash making possible to take the perfect selfie. It’s a 2.0 opening and the camera has 4 lens capable of shooting 1080p.
The BQ Aquaris X5 follows the new BQ trend, which is undoubtedly an added value for their customers: 5-year warranty for the equipment. At a time when more and more users have been complaining about the lack of quality in construction of the equipment, BQ ends up betting on something that reinforces what has been doing over the years: building equipment with quality and also ensuring good support to their clients.
For those interested in this new BQ device, you will have to wait until the beginning of November, when it will be released. It will be available on the BQ’s online store and in different custom stores, in three different versions, with a price starting at 249,90€ for the lower version (16Gb internal memory, 2GB RAM), reaching up to 289,90€ for the highest version (32GB internal memory, 3GB RAM).
